T20 World Cup 2012 Live: South Africa sends Zimbabwe home
T20 World Cup 2012 has been a dampener till now with no exciting finishes or thriller contests. Most of the cricket matches in this edition of world cup have been one-sided affairs with the top teams crushing the minnows.
The viewers would be hoping that the world cup gains some momentum early and provides them with the much needed cricket frenzy. The Group C match between South Africa and Zimbabwe was a no contest for the low ranked side as they crashed out of the world T20 2012 after their second consecutive defeat.
South Africa were surgical in their display of cricket skills. The second ranked team performed to their strengths while limiting Zimbabwe to the second lowest total in T20 cricket. Dale Steyn spear-headed the Proteas attack with his swing and pace while Morne Morkel was able to restrict the shot-making abilities of the Zimbabwe batsmen.
Jacques Kallis proved that experience is the key to success, as he crashed the middle order of Zimbabwe’s batting line-up in the 4th match of T20 World Cup 2012. Zimbabwe was reeling at 17 for 3 and were lurking in the danger of not completing their quota of 20 overs, but Craig Ervine tried to resurrect the innings. Kallis ended the short streak of the success of the Zimbabwe batsman as he struck twice in the 11th over.
Zimbabwe was bundled out at 93 with Craig Ervine top scoring with 37 runs. The Proteas chased the target in 13 overs without losing a wicket. South Africa would be a happy side as their chances for winning the T20 World Cup have increased with the burly Richard Levi striking form with a half-century and Hashim Amla finding his deft touch.
AB de villiers, South African captain was pleased with his team’s performance and said, “Very happy with the start. I back our pace bowlers to do well on this kind of deck. Hopefully its the same for the next game. Richard and Hash started really well.” The T20 World Cup road ends for Zimbabwe after this defeat as they go home dejected and looking for answers. South Africa move on with their world cup ambitions as they are scheduled to meet hosts Sri Lanka in their next game.
