Arsenal v Aston Villa match preview & betting predictions

The first game we are focusing on is a vital game for both sides: Arsenal v Aston Villa. Arsenal desperately need to win this game to move closer within the top four; currently four points behind 4th placed London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Aston Villa are hovering above the relegation zone and are only one point clear of Reading. Coming back from the Emirates with anything other than a loss would be excellent for their bid for survival.

Arsenal and their manager Arsene Wenger have recently been scrutinized in the media for their poor performances against Blackburn (FA cup) and Bayern Munich (Champions League). Arsenal are low odds at 3/10 to win this game and you may question their level of confidence at the moment. Despite Arsenal’s dip in form in the recent cup competition games; their Premiership form has remained decent. They have scored 33 goals in 13 home games, only one less at this stage, than they did in their invincible season of 2003/2004.

Paul Lambert has had his young Aston Villa side playing good football, but not on a consistent level. Their problems lie in scoring goals having scored the second lowest amount in the league. They largely rely on Benteke for the goals, 26 (11) and if Arsenal can shut him out, they stand every chance of winning this game. Based on Villa’s lack of goals and the expectancy of Arsenal to respond to poor cup results. Arsenal HT/FT is my recommendation for this one at 5/6.
