Arsenal FC latest: news, gossip & transfer rumours roundup
All is quiet on the Emirates import and export speculations, however following his side’s midweek victory in the Champions League Wenger will not entertain transfer rumours, for his youngsters are stepping up to the plate, cue a self-analysis by Aaron Ramsey…
The Wales midfielder is hoping to use his winning goal against Olympiakos will serve as motivation to help him perform back to his best, to end a string of dismal back-to-back seasons and injury woes.
Ramsey commented: “I had a really bad injury and it takes a while to get back to your best… hopefully now this will kick me on again and I’ll keep on improving throughout the season. I’m feeling good now, I’m happy and hopefully that’s showing in my performances.”
Ramsey is not the only Arsenal starlet receiving praise from friends in high places, his teammate Carl Jenkinson is will now earn his stripes as a full England international, according to boss Roy Hodgson.
Last season’s form was nothing short of disappointing but Jenkinson has learned from his mistakes and really made the right full-back spot his own this season, now Hodgson believes its time he pulled on the Three Lions shirt for the upcoming international friendlies.
Hodgson told The Sun: “We kept Jenkinson up our sleeves on this occasion, but he’ll be in our thoughts for the next friendly.”
Arsenal boss Wenger is feeding the senior England setup an army of young talent, with Jenkinson set to join fellow comrades Walcott, Chamberlain, Gibbs and Wiltshire at international level, providing a happy problem for Roy Hodgson.
With such a deep pool of midfield options to choose from Hodgson will not rush back Jack Wiltshire into England duty seeing as the starlet has just returned to action some 16 months after his last competitive game.
There is a growing consensus that Wiltshire will be eased back in on the international scene as Frank Lampard’s career winds down, swapping like-for-like high quality attacking assets.
It has already been suggested the 20-year-old will place a huge question mark over Frank Lampard’s international future by claiming one of those prized midfield berths.
Hodgson confirmed there is no immediate need to have Wiltshire in his squad: “It’s great to see Jack back, but it’s naive to think he’ll walk back into being what he wants”.
