Time for Wenger to raid back Barca?

With having turned down the option to pay well over the odds for loan singing Nuri Sahin – the sensible move of the summer – Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is back to his wily ways this week with a bid for Barcelona’s Ibrahim Affelay, who is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Commenting on Dutch football show Studio Voetbal, Afellay’s agent Rob Jansen announced that the out of favour attacker is looking to resume his playing career outside of Spain, which will entertain Arsenal, who have long been linked with the 26-year-old for some time.

Barcelona signed Afellay at the beginning of January 2011 with high hopes, however a sequence of knee injuries has kept him out of the first team.

Now Jansen has admitted it is time for Afellay to move on. “We are talking about a loan move here,” he told Studio Voetbal. “It all depends on Barcelona though… we are in talks with several clubs.”

Arsenal are keeping their options open should the situation turn sour and will enquire over the availability of Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, after retreating from an earlier decision to bid for teammate Tiote.

Wenger said: ‘I’m pleased with what I have, but yes I anticipate that we will do something. Defensive midfielder? It depends on the quality of the players available. Tiote is a good player, but he’s not on the way to Arsenal.’

It is thought that Wenger will also make a last ditch attempt to sign a central defender as an extra precautionary measure.

We don't need either of them who we need is Yann M'vila to replace Song. Do we need another striker to add… I feel that Giroud and Podolski will do fine at arsenal they just need to get settled and used to English football.

Ibrahim Affelay is a good option for Arsene Wenger, but it looks Arsene is confused now, he waited for too long to take some decisions, and that is leaving him with " leftovers" The transfer market will not wait for him. Every players has a price tag, if he wants the best, its available in the market provided he can pay for it. Let him stop playing "football politics".

Cant Wenger understand that the reason why Arsenal failed to score against Sunderland and stoke city had to do with whobling defensive players as there was no Song (in the team) who confidently dribbles his way to the opponent eighteen yard box before laying a through pass into box for any available strike/lfinisher to score the score. Abdou Diahby has tried but his best is not in the same class with Song….If referee had allowed stoke City first half goal, Arsenal would have lost the match……thanks to the referee. Against LIVERPOOL at the weekend, Wenger should expect fire-work because, Liverpool is a more stronger opposition and well organized team when compared with Sunderland and Stoke respectively. Besides, without a good replacement for RVP and Song am afraid, the goal drought might continue this weekend. Should Liverpool score first then your guess is as good as mine……..the fans must seek divine intervention otherwise, Liverpool feeling wounded could score goals against ARSENAL at anti-field. Wenger, should not sign players but rather strategize now to sell during January 2013 transfer window the remaining quality players at Emirate. One is indeed at complete loss to contemplate the rate at which quality players leave emirate stadium each season. Had Cliche, Fabregas, Naisru, Adebayo, Kolou Tuore, RVP and Song been encouraged to stay back at Emirate no other team in Europe can defeat the gunners this season. Besides, Arsenal would have produce another set of invicibles. Silverware is not important at the emirate and l need all fans reconcile this fact and be less restive each time they watch Arsenal play.
