Arsenal FC latest football news and transfer rumours
Following a stalemate at Man City yesterday Arsenal’s first team selection and calamity acts in front of goal gave the Sunday papers a generous helping of ammunition for their transfer news and speculation columns, and as expected its Gervinho Theo Walcott that make the headlines.
Several big news sources claim yesterday’s 1-1 result at the Etihad Stadium could force Wenger to swallow his pride and bring in another front man to polish off the chances wasted by Ivory Coast international Gervinho and ex-Montpillier striker Giroud.
As for the not-so-young Theo Walcott, now demoted beneath Podolski, Ramsey and Chamberlain in the attacking pecking order, his indecision to sign a new contract at the start of the season may have been the final straw for boss Wenger, who may cash in come January.
It was reported in August that Arsenal offered the England international a £20,000-a-week rise but not the £100,000 that is being demanded, so are now preparing to let the wide man go for the right offer.
Former Southampton trainee Walcott could be swapped with prolific Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, who is also kicking up a fuss over contract negotiations at Athletic Bilbao.
Llorente is a highly sought after commodity in La Liga, scoring 30 goals in 53 games last season, he could be sold at a reduced fee with just half a year left on his contract.
