Barcelona vs AC Milan: Milan proves naysayers wrong, defeats Barca 2-0
Barcelona vs AC Milan Champions League match turned on its head as the result shows a different story, which was negated during the numerous previews of the match. Clearly marked as the underdogs, Milan have surprised the football fans with a stoic display of sheer brilliance and once again proved that the formidable Spanish side can be defeated.
The Camp Nou side dominated the first half, but could not manage to get past the four line of defenders from the Italian side. In the 57th minute, Ghana international, Kevin-Prince Boateng scored the first brace off a rebound with the Catalans crying foul. That was not the end of the night as Stephan El Shaarawy set up a goal for another Ghana international, Sulley Muntari.
AC Milan was injury ridden, when it took the field, but that did not stop them from defeating the La Liga leader in the first leg. Barcelona now need to win on aggregate goals in the second leg at Camp Nou where they will have the home advantage. Lionel Messi was rather quiet for the Spanish side as Barcelona FC conceded for the 10th consecutive game.
Proving the naysayers wrong, Milan has created a major upset in the Champions League. The Italian side was written off before the game and a banner on the south end of the San Siro stadium read, “We are history.” Milan might not be the side it used to be, but this win holds utmost importance for the side, which has not seen good times recently.
Commenting on the resounding win, Milan head coach, Massimiliano Allegri said, “We won an important game against Barcelona, which I believed in and nobody else did.” Allegri has refused to relax for the second leg as he stated that things are going to get tough and rightly so, but till then Milan will definitely enjoy the win.
