Chelsea FC latest team news, transfer rumours roundup: Ryan Shawcross
With John Terry making a name for himself in the dock and Ashley Cole squaring up the the FA on Twitter, you’d think the last thing Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo wants is another bad boy on his books, that hasn’t stopped him enquiring over the availability of Stoke stopper Ryan Shawcross.
Yes it seems Di Matteo has a soft spot for stoke’s own Sargent Bash, Ryan Shawcross, currently public enemy number three on the Premier League hit list, Sky Sports reports that the ‘old-school’ defender may be the next import at Stamford Bridge.
Shawcross has made a name for himself in the Premiership as a force to be reckoned with over the last season, attempting to gate-crash the senior England side and prove his worth to Roy Hodgson, now Chelsea look to snap him up if the price is right.
The 25-year-old has been instrumental in stabilising Stoke’s form during the last five seasons in the top flight league, his efforts have seen him called up for recent World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Poland.
Shawcross has 18 months left on his 18 months of his contract and the shars are circling in hope that the defender decides to move on to bigger, brighter things.
Chelsea isn’t the only club to be monitoring his situation, Manchester United who like a transfer or two, will go toe-to-toe with the West London team for Shawcross’ signature.
Sir Alex knows that captain Vidic is not the player he used to be and can not count on the ageing Ferdinand or injury plagued Jones, Smalling or Evans to instil fear into the opposition.
