Chelsea transfer news: Gus Poyet, Jose Mourinho, Steve Clarke, Gianfranco Zola
Chelsea FC transfer news is still reeling with the Rafa Benitez rant as the interim manager stated that he will stay at Stamford Bridge till May, contrary to the rumours of Abramovich looking to fire the interim manager of the Blues. Benitez claimed that he has excellent relations with Abramovich and there are no issues in the team. (Has Rafa looked around?)
As the transfer rumours grow about the replacement of Benitez, Brighton manager, Gus Poyet, has expressed his interest in taking the position of manager at Stamford Bridge at the end of the tenure of Rafa. The Uruguayan international also stated that he will not compromise with his responsibilities at Brighton in the desire for the position at Chelsea FC.
Talking about his aspirations for the managerial position at Chelsea FC, Poyet said, “I want to go to the highest level. That’s my aim as everybody knows. If that is the Premier League and Chelsea, fantastic. If it is somebody else, we’ll see. I always want Chelsea to win and I’m pleased to see them in the next round of the FA Cup.”
Jose Mourinho has been the favourite of bookies to lead Chelsea FC after the departure of Rafa Benitez. West Brom boss, Steve Clarke has ruled himself out of the job at Stamford Bridge as he placed his odds at 50-1. Clarke has been linked with a move to Chelsea FC after Benitez was rumoured to be heading for a premature exit.
Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, has also been speculated with a return to the Blues as a manager. Zola was voted Chelsea’s best player of all time by the fans and his return would certainly be well-received. Former Chelsea FC assistant boss, Graham Rix, has stated that Frank Lampard and John Terry are well-equipped to manage the side. Whom do you want as the manager of the Blues?
