Marouane Fellaini on his way to Stamford Bridge?

With regard to Chelsea transfer news, it’s been a quiet month for the richest Premier League club in London, but that could all change fairly swiftly due to the recent activity of Everton FC in this January transfer window.

With tomorrow’s transfer deadline day looming there could be one final push for Rafa Benitez’s men to bring in an addition to the bulging, affluent CFC squad and the name being talked up is Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.

Several CFC blogs have this week questioned if the decision for Everton to bring in FC Twente central midfielder Leroy Fer is the unofficial signal for Chelsea to wrap up a behind-closed-doors move for long-term target Fellaini.

On Monday, Everton announced Leroy Fer had joined for a substantial fee of €10 million, which is a head-scratcher considering the Premiership side is known to be financially unstable in this present climate, and so the rumours begin…

Insiders are speculating a down payment may have already been made by Chelsea for Fellaini which would account for the sudden appearance of funds in David Moyes war chest.

Since no official announcement has been made from Chelsea this can only be put down as a well-intentioned rumour, although many will question why the Everton manager has chosen to strengthen his midfield when he is already fully equipped with a balance of attacking and defensive nous.

Should a deal go through it must happen before the transfer deadline of midnight tomorrow, or Benitez (or the current Chelsea manager at the time) would welcome the Belgian to the club at the end of the season.

In other news, the transfer of Jack Butland to Chelsea will not happen any time soon due to the Birmingham goalkeeper refusing to move.

Championship side Birmingham had initially agreed that Butland could leave although the England senior international is said to be happy to stay rather than jostle for first-team action at Stamford Bridge with Petr Cech and Ross Turnbull.
