Premier League transfer deadline day completed signings roundup

In what proved to be the busiest day of the transfer window with 72 completed deals clubs in England and the Scottish Premier League went right to the wire to make signings to bolster their squads, although the two major signings that grabbed the headlines, David Beckham and Mario Balotelli, happened outside of the UK.

News from Italy and France revealed, after much rumour and speculation, that the transfers of Mario Balotelli to AC Milan from Manchester City and David Beckham’s decision to join Paris St-Germain finally went through to the delight of fans in Europe.

Balotelli to AC Milan came at the hefty price of £17m, almost half the cost of what City paid for the Italy striker several years back; the move put an end to a colourful but unproductive spell at the Etihad Stadium for one of football’s most notorious characters.

In contrast David Beckham joining Paris St-Germain as a free agent on a five-month deal was a move born out of altruism, bearing in mind the ex-England captain will receive no official wages from the French club and the agreed payments are instead being sent directly to a children’s charity.

Of the Premier League clubs total transfer spent of £120m the most high-profile signing was QPR’s capture of Cristopher Samba for £12m, a move that will see him breach the £100,000 weekly wage bracket.
