Fulham rubbishes reports of Clint Dempsey signing for Liverpool
Fulham FC have strongly denied that Clint Dempsey has been sold to Liverpool after reports on the Reds' owner's website claimed that the striker had joined the club.
The post on the Fenway Sports Group's website read “added Clint Dempsey to a team that came within a game of winning the FA Cup,” and sparked rumours of the forward's transfer to Liverpool. Fulham have dismissed reports that the Dempsey is up for grabs and has warned clubs against making any bids for the player.
Fulham said, “We have received no offers from any club for Clint Dempsey. We would discourage any club from making a bid for him.” The post has been removed from the website and Liverpool has also confirmed they have not signed the Dempsey.
The star USA International forward has been in the London club since 2007, has scored 23 goals in 46 appearances last season, has another year contract left with the club and Fulham is keen to extend his stay by renewing his contract. With all these factors in mind, Dempsey is bound to stay at Craven Cottage.
The 29-year old Texan has established himself as a key player for Fulham. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of a mid-fielder, especially after missing out on Gylfi Sigurdsson, who was snatched by Tottenham Hotspur for £8 million. Rodgers feels that the Texan could fill up the vacant position at Craven Cottage and could make a great marketable footballer.
