It’s all been one way transfer activity at Stamford Bridge during the summer window, manager Roberto Di Matteo has a squad bursting at the seams, which means some unhappy bench warmer will be considering his options, according to spies in Valencia.
Speculation about Valecia’s interest in Chelsea players is rife in today’s Independent, reports that the Spanish outfit are set to nab Oriol Romeu are doing the rounds.
The 20-year-old midfielder made quite an impression at Stamford Bridge last year but has been suffocated by the acquisitions of midfield muscle, falling behind Hazard, Oscar Marin.
Valencia on the other hand are in need of midfield muscle if they wish to stamp their authority on a European campaign this season.
This Spanish sports paper Super Deporte claim that Valencia sent scouts to watch Romeu, with a view to making a €5m move for the player.
According to insiders at Stamford Bridge Chelsea could be tempted to offload the player to Spain, but to Barcelona instead, with a reported £12m buy-back clause in his contract as a long-term insurance policy.
In other news, The Sun writes that Arsenal scouts have smelt big trouble in little China and are ready to offer Chelsea old boy Didier Drogba a lifeline.
The 34-year-old Shanghai Shenhua striker has been caught up in a boardroom power struggle just three months after signing a £200,000 a week and could be looking for a return to London, which may solve Arsenal’s goal bankruptcy issues.
