Chelsea FC transfer news latest, Sep 14: Falcao
Today’s European transfer gossip stories travel to South West London as rumours have materialised that Roman Abramovich is considering an early Christmas present for himself in the shape of Atletico Madrid’s forward man Radamel Falcao Garcia.
Chelsea never did manage to tie up a deal for a striker this summer, albeit plenty of daily media attention was given to stories involving their attempts to acquire Porto’s Hulk, Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid target Neymar, which evaporated without trace.
Now Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo may be given the green light to swoop in for one of Europe’s most highly sought after frontmen and La Liga sensation Radamel Falcao Garcia, according to several close sources.
The 26-year-old Colombia international’s father and agent recently suggested there is a strong desire for the player to join the Premier League, to a competitive environment in which the striker would be able to develop into one of the best in the world.
However, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has reiterated his intentions to keep his prize asset for the foreseeable future amidst reports that the club will sell to balance the book.
“I want to keep Falcao in the squad,” Cerezo told AS.
“For us, the Colombian is a reference point on the pitch and today he is key for Atletico.”
“I hope to be here another 25 years with Falcao. With his father, I do not know, but with him I hope so,” he added.
