Lionel Messi picked up his fourth Ballon d’Or

Lionel Messi is a name synonymous with Ballon d’Or, but this year presents a divided opinion between the Argentine great and another man on the list Cristiano Ronaldo. Many people and news sources are embroiled in a discussion whether Messi deserves this year’s Ballon d’Or or it should have been in the hands of the Portugal striker.

There are no qualms about the talent Messi possesses as he is conjuring magic on the field, but many sports reporters have expressed reservations for this year’s decision. Ronaldo’s bid for the title has been supported by his contribution in driving Real Madrid to La Liga title glory. Andres Iniesta completed the list of probables to win Ballon d’Or.

The Indian Express reports that Cristiano Ronaldo should have won the title due to his performance in Real’s journey to the title and in the year 2012. Messi was short of words while receiving Ballon d’Or as he said, “To tell you the truth this is really quite unbelievable. The fourth award that I have had is just too great for words.”

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 46 times in Real Madrid’s title triumph, which has also led people to submit the case of the Portugal player. Messi, himself is not short the records list as he broke Gerd Mueller’s 40-year-old record for most goals in a calendar year and winning the Ballon d’Or for the fourth time.

The Argentine player found the net 91 times in 2012 as he showed unrivaled class on the football field. There is no doubt that the two players, Ronaldo and Messi are among the greatest talents football fans have seen and any comparison would be injustice to their abilities. As far as the Ballon d’Or goes, who do you think deserves the award for 2012?
