Liverpool FC: Latest team news, transfer rumours
Champions League excitements is upon us, and although it’s Arsenal that will be headlining tonight’s show Brendan Rodgers will be stalking Shalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for he is entertaining the idea of making the Dutchman the club’s next signing.
This transfer rumour first broke several days back in the build-up to the Arsenal-Shalke duel, now the speculation has been fuelled by the hype attributed to Huntelaar, an asset which Liverpool consider to be the final piece f the puzzle.
A quick revisit over Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s current contract setup reveals he is to become a free agent in January, where he will be in a position to renew his deal or sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.
Ironically it was Arsenal that first made enquiries over the tall frontman’s availability eyeing him as the perfect replacement for fellow countryman Robin Van Persie, although that ship seems to have sailed and Rodgers wants first refusal on the 29-year-old goal getter.
Too much demand has been forced upon Luis Suarez this season who is one of few Liverpool players to have helped himself to goals, it is thought that a striker in the mould of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who thrives on crosses will present a new dynamic to the style of play.
Schalke’s general manager, Horst Heldt, will have to move fast to secure the striker’s future in Germany and despite unrest he is confident that Huntelaar will remain loyal to the club.
Heldt told Sport 1: “We have decided that we won’t have any contract talks before December and there will be no new developments.
“I have had the feeling Klaas-Jan can’t decide at this stage and I will give him the time he needs. My goal is to persuade him to stay at Schalke and to extend his contract.
“We will resume talks in December, January at the latest, and then I expect a quick decision.”
