Liverpool FC latest transfer news, rumours & team updates
The transfer of Daniel Sturridge to Liverpool was an inch away from completion as reported several days back by Sports Bulletin, news reaches the football back pages today that the move could now be in jeopardy due to unsettled agent fees.
In a shocking turn of events Liverpool may now have to delay the arrival of Chelsea striker Sturridge who was initially booked in for a medical at Anfield on Wednesday and would be unveiled as Brendan Rodgers latest transfer signing on January 1.
The debacle has risen from Liverpool chiefs’ decision to do away with astronomical fees to third parties orchestrating transfers, figures state that the Premier League club have laid down over £30million for agents services, only Chelsea and Manchester City have paid more.
If not Sturridge then long-term (Anderlecht target Lucas Biglia may be the next in line to pull on a Liverpool shirt), as suggested by transfer rumours frequenting football news website TalkSport.
Anfield boss Rodgers has been informed the Argentine midfielder is on the potential exit list at his current club, Anderlecht chiefs are willing to let Biglia leave for sum of £8m or more from a suitable bidder.
Biglia has been the subject of transfer speculation for some time now as Arsenal were the first Premier League side to enquire of his availability, shortly followed by Tottenham and Liverpool, the latter remaining on the Argentine’s tail.
“We have not formally received an offer for Lucas but we know that his agent is making moves in the transfer market,” Anderlecht general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck told calciomercato.com.
“Biglia has two and a half years left on his contract and we would only consider letting him go if we receive an offer of €10.25m. He won’t leave in January for a penny less.”
In other news, the failed transfer of Andy Carroll to Liverpool has sparked rumours this week that the tall frontman may be heading back to former club Newcastle for a portion of the £35m fee paid by Kenny Dalglish.
Boss Rodgers has made it clear to Carroll, currently on a season-long loan at West Ham, that he has no future at Anfield and can leave in the summer after not living up to his extortionate price tag.
