Liverpool FC latest transfer news and rumours, Aug 22
With a less than emphatic start to the Premier League campaign, Liverpool are in need of more fire power and ammunition from the flanks, according to Brendan Rodgers, who this morning is busying himself with more transfer speculation.
The BBC have Liverpool as joint favourites with Tottenham to land Manchester City’s Adam Johnson, a terrific talent that has been wasting away on the bench for the best part of two years, certainly he would see plenty of first-team action at Anfield.
Despite interest from the two clubs, Sunderland also have Johnson on their radar and although the 25-year-old may be tempted to a move back up north, he will know he has a brighter future ahead at Merseyside or North London.
Liverpool’s Rodgers also faces competition for another impressive youngster, stating his admiration for Mexico’s Olympic star Hector Herrera.
The 22-year-old midfielder was the heart and soul behind Mexico’s gold medal victory and has so far been a United target, but now Liverpool are keen to do battle for the attacker.
Herrera, whether he flies in to Manchester or John Lennon airport, will warrant a cost of no less than £10m.
