Time for today’s dose of Liverpool transfer news and gossip courtesy of the morning papers, it’s Newcastle striker Demba Ba who’s making the headlines with several scoops pointing to Anfield as his next destination.

It is no secret that Ba, 27, has been out of favour with Magpies boos Alan Pardew this season and has vented his frustration during post-match interviews, which has brewed speculation that he may no longer have a future at Newcastle.

The Senegal front man may push for a move in the January transfer window in order to rejuvenate his career now that international teammate Papa Cisse has stolen his thunder, it is believed that Liverpool, who in desperate need of goals, will make a bid for £7m.

“There is that clause in his contract and it makes us vulnerable,” Pardew said. “It’s still open in the next window.”

Pardew has attempted to deflect any animosity that lingers at the club by stating publicly his intentions to keep Ba at Newcastle.

“‘I have spoken to Demba [about his agent] and told him I was disappointed with some of the comments around him,” Pardew added.

“But we know each other well enough, and I’ve got no problems with him, because he is a team player who wants to do his best for the team. He has always been like that.

“I just think the agent stuff was people saying things they shouldn’t say, really. It doesn’t really affect myself and Demba, because we’ve got a very good relationship.”

Liverpool will grab the Europa lifeline with both hands tonight when they go up against Swiss side Young Boys aiming to move on from recent poor results.
