Liverpool transfer news: Reina to stay, Reds looking at Keisuke Honda
Liverpool FC transfer news hints at Brendan Rodgers intentions of not shipping off Pepe Reina despite the transfer stories circulating in the media. The Reds boss insisted on the notion of the stopper staying at Anfield as he refuted the idea of the goalkeeper leaving Liverpool FC. The keeper has been struggling in this season with his fitness and form.
Brendan Rodgers clarified that the Spanish goalkeeper’s long-term future lies at Liverpool FC. The transfer move speculations were rubbished by the Kop boss as he referred to Pepe Reina as the ‘number one’ goalkeeper for the Anfield side. Liverpool FC transfer rumours suggested at Reina leaving after the seven game injury spell, which saw Jones take the net.
Commenting on the future of Reina, Rodgers said, “I want to make it one hundred per cent clear because I have read all different stories about goalkeepers linked and him leaving – this is a guy who is in a real real good moment, he is the Number One keeper for Liverpool. At this moment in time he has three years left in his contract and I think he has his best years ahead of him.”
Talking about understudy Jones, Rodgers added, “Pepe is my number one, and Brad is another one I would like to keep. Brad’s shown he’s a very loyal and supportive number two, and it is important in the dynamic of your group is that you a clear number one which is Pepe, and then Brad who has stepped up to the plate and showed he is a very capable No2, so we are looking to give him a new contract.”
In other Liverpool FC transfer news, the Reds are reported to prepare a £12 million bid for CSKA Moscow star, Keisuke Honda during the January transfer window. The Japanese international is nearing the end of his contract with the Russian club and Liverpool FC boss believes that he can coerce the player back to his best.
