A quick deviation before we crack on with the latest Man United news and transfer rumours, over at the Etihad Stadium it would have been curtains for Mancini’s sky blue army had it not been for the immortal Joe Hart, England’s number 1, the City boss was not the only one signing his praises…

Wayne Rooney reckons Joe Hart is the ‘best keeper in the world’ following his magnificent display against Borussia Dortmund last night, the two sides drew 1-1 after a late Balotelli penalty.

Rooney was quick to praise his England teammate, he wrote on Twitter: “Have to say joe hart has been incredible. For me best keeper in the world.”

Not so good news for Man United legend Rio Ferdinand, who off the back of a bitter race row with Chelsea captain John Terry, siding with brother Anton, has been told in no uncertain terms that his England career is over.

Many critics believed that Terry’s retirement from international football would prompt the return of Ferdinand in his place, but when asked about this by the Mirror boss Roy Hodgson answered with conviction.

“I very much doubt it. He hasn’t played for England for quite a while,” Hodgson told the public.

“I have to say it is over for him and England. It has got to be the end of the road.

Time for some transfer news now, Alex Ferguson is still keen on Ian Holloway’s prodigy Tom Ince, son of former Man United and England midfield warhorse Paul.

The Sun reports that Fergie was on the brink of stealing the Blackpool star away from lower league football in a deal to take placew in the winter transfer window, to the tune of £4m.

Now Holloway has raised the stakes to £10m, his rationale being that Tom Ince is a better long-term prospect than Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott, so the cost of the player should reflect that.

When asked to comment on the transfer news, Holloway said: “I can’t keep our players, but I’m working with them to get them to a United or an Arsenal.

“If we are not successful this year Tom may get there before I can, so do I want to stand in his way? Probably not.
