Robin van Persie... Manchester United close in on the Arsenal striker!

Old Trafford is gearing up hard for the new season as Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed their interest in Arsenal’s Robin van Persie has intensified with the likely exit of Dimitar Berbatov.

The Arsenal skipper had announced last week that he wants to leave Emirates Stadium. Since his formal announcement, the biggest Italian and English clubs have shown keen interest in signing the striker. Also, van Persie rejected Arsenal’s offer of £130,000 a week, who still has a year left on his contract with the Gunners.

Ferguson said, “I am easy about it if he stays. I would be happy with that. But if someone comes in and Dimitar wants to leave, we will assess it.”

After the turn of events surrounding the striker who turns 29 next month, Manchester United have come strong to secure the striker with Berbatov likely to leave Old Trafford. Ferguson said about his forward, “I do not need to herald the abilities of Dimitar Berbatov, he is a fantastic talent,’ At his age, it was difficult for him to accept his position in the forward line. He had Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez in front of him, and they are all young men. The boy has a future, but if he wants to leave it is a different matter.”

The Dutch striker had keen interest in Italian giants Juventus, but the offer seems to have faded out after the Juves turned to Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic who comes with a manageable £45,000 per week fees. With the Red Devils awaiting Berbatov’s exit, the other big clubs interested in the Flying Dutchman are the EPL Champions Manchester City and PSG.
