FA Cup: Manchester United boots Reading out, might face Chelsea in quarters

Nani scores against Reading

Nani set up the 2-1 win for Manchester United FC against Reading in FA Cup

FA Cup draw displays a possibility that Manchester United FC could face Chelsea FC in the quarter finals, courtesy to the 2-1 win against Reading in the fifth round. Nani and Hernandez set up the Red Devils win as the Portuguese winger scored the opener and set the Mexican forward for the next. Reading reduced the goal difference as Jobi McAnuff put one past de Gea.

Sir Alex Ferguson stated that he was satisfied by the performance of the Premier League leaders, but could have scored more goals. With this win the Old Trafford side proceeds to the quarters, where it may or may not face Chelsea FC. The Blues have to win their next clash against Middlesbrough in order to set a match against Man U.

Expressing his views about the match, Sir Alex said, “We played some great football and could have scored a lot of goals tonight. I’m satisfied with the quality of our play. We should have punished them better though. At 2-0 you are never comfortable. Nani deserved to be man of the match, his contribution was terrific. I had a feeling he would win the match for us.”

Robin van Persie, Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand started the game on the bench with Wayne Rooney being left out of the squad after suffering from sinusitis. Nani came on the field just before half-time. Manchester United FC have earlier defeated Reading 4-3, in a Premier League encounter.

Arsenal FC departed from the FA Cup after their loss to Blackburn Rovers, which would have not gone down well with the Gunners’ fans. Manchester City FC have also entered the quarter finals and will face Barnsley.
