Manchester United vs Real Madrid: Rooney and Ronaldo set to face-off today

Man U vs Real Madrid

It is the match the world is waiting for, says Mourinho

Manchester United FC vs Real Madrid FC, a clash which has every football fan in high spirits happens today as Cristiano Ronaldo returns to old Trafford, but this time he will play on the opposite side. The last time these two clubs faced each other in April 2003, Ronaldo was wearing the colours of the Red Devils.

With many opinions and comments flying around, the atmosphere is set for this Champions League clash, which could be compared to the likes of ‘El Clasico’. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney have been the faces of the team (Bad luck Van Persie) as many media avenues have termed them as the players, who could tilt the balance of the game on the favour of their respective sides. The two top clubs have met only four times across six decades with Madrid leading 3-1.

Talking about the encounter, Manchester United FC coach, Sir Alex Ferguson said, “The acid test is tomorrow, no doubt about that, and we have to get through to win this competition, no doubt. But there’s a great spirit about this team and they deserve recognition. It’s unfortunate we’re meeting this early. I wish it had been at Wembley.”

This clash is reported to attract 200 million viewers across the world. Both the teams have been in prime form this season. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Sevilla on Saturday as Real Madrid took the La Liga match by 4-1. Robin Van Persie has been the master of deft touch since his move to Manchester United FC and will play a key role alongside Wayne Rooney.

Earlier, Rooney was called ‘El Coco’ by a Madrid newspaper referring to one of the monsters from Sesame Street. The kick-off is scheduled at 19:45 GMT, so football fans, which side are you on?
