Aegon International: Trio of Watson, Baker and Robson all exit
The British duo Heather Watson and Laura Robson exited in the second round of the Aegon International.
The duo joins fellow Brit Jamie Baker who also lost early to seventh seed Phillipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Watson, 20, lost to Czech seventh seed Lucie Safarova 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 while Robson went down 6-4 7-5 to Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.
Baker’s exit combined with duo’s defeats makes for an all British exit from the Aegon International tournament. Baker was cut down by his German opponent twice. The German lead 4-0 in the third set and showed no signs of going down against Baker.
American Andy Roddick entered the last eight by defeating Jeremy Chardy 6-2 7-5 in just 84 minutes. Phillipp joins Roddick in the quarter-final stages of the tournament.
World champion Marion Bartoli of France eased to victory with a 6-2 6-2 against Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak.Daniela Hantuchova went down 06-4 3-6 6-1 to Tamira Paszek and Petra Cetkovska succumbed 6-1 1-6 6-2 to Klara Zakopalova.
Britons in the doubles draw with Jamie Delgado and Ken Skupski came strong beating Pablo Andujar and Albert Ramos 6-3 6-0 but Dominic Inglot and Jonathan Marray lost 6-2 4-6 11-9 with Matthew Ebden and Donald Young.
Israeli pair Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram went down 7-2 7-6 to Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins.
