UFC 153 results: Silva cripples Bonnar, declines superfight matchup against Jones

UFC 153 results of Anderson Silva VS Stephen Bonnar showed why Silva is ranked as the potential opponent for superfight match-ups against George St. Pierres and Jon Jones. Silva’s win over Bonnar was both elegant and brutal as the 37-year old showed no signs of deteriorating. Silva’s pounding of Bonnar might not go down as a notable win in his career, but will be remembered as ‘The Spider’ saving UFC by accepting the fight on such a short notice.
UFC 153 nets were abuzz with debates over who is the top ranked player on the fighting circuit after Silva’s win over Bonnar. Stephen Bonnar declined to attend the post-match conference after the defeat, though he later apologised to his fans and promised to give them a better show next time on Twitter. UFC president Dana White was very interested in a show-down between Silva and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Anderson Silva, on the other hand declined the offer to fight with Jones. Dana White said, “There’s no doubt who’s the number-one fighter of all time. Then you can argue over who is number two and three. This would clean up the debate of who’s the best fighter in the world. It’ll be about who’s the greatest. But you’ve got to understand, timing is everything. We have shows to run. We can’t sit around and wait. If you think I don’t want to see both these fights happen, you’re crazy. I do.”
Anderson Silva, after crippling Stephen Bonnar in the course of his victory stated that the superfight against St-Pierre would be the easier fight for him at the moment. He said, “I’m old, guys. I’m getting old. I’m retired. I’m nearly there. I’ve only got another five years. I think GSP would be a great challenge for me. I prefer him over Jon Jones. He’s smaller. It’ll be a little bit easier. I’ll be hit less.”
The superfight match-ups between Silva, Pierre and Jones have not been confirmed yet, though we know that UFC 153 fights which can’t happen, ultimately find their way to the fighting den.
