UFC 154 Main Event Fight Replay, George St. Pierre vs Carlos Condit
Spoiler alert: Welterweight champions George St. Pierre walked through walls to leave Montreal with a unanimous win against former training partner and number one contender Carlos Condit in a thrilling five-round encounter.
What a treat for fight fans this past weekend as UFC 154 put on a main card featuring George St. Pierre and Carlos Condit that could be described as one of the greatest match-ups of all time, a record 10 consecutive wins for the champion.
St Pierre had been out of action for over a year with injury since his victory over Jake Shields but he silenced critics who said it would be too tough a task to overcome a former teammate brimming with confidence and looking leaner than ever.
Canadian athlete of the year Pierre controlled the fight from the initial bell having put Condit on the back foot with well-timed jabs and aggressive takedowns, the challenger cautiously avoiding further damage by defending off his back at every opportunity.
Only once did Condit inflict any serious damage to Pierre when midway through the third round the Albuquerque kick boxer struck with a vicious kick to the head flooring his opponent momentarily.
And although the challenger piled on the pressure with blows to the upper body it was not enough to finish Pierre on the mat, who later reversed the pressure and opened up on Condit with relentless ground and pound.
The questions pursed on the lips of fight fans across the globe is now who will Pierre fight next, with a super fight against a ringside Anderson Silver at a catch weight potentially on the cards or sticking around at 170lbs to fight heavy hitter Jonny Hendricks, who knocked out Martin Kampmann in round one of their match-up.
