UFC 151 news and rumours, Jones v Henderson
New rumours float in today that Chael Sonnen may step in to replace an injured Dan Henderson ahead of next weekend’s UFC 151 light-heavyweight championship bout, as speculation grows that the current no.1 challenger is unfit to face champion Jones.
No fight fan needs reminding that next weekend plays host to one of the biggest UFC fights in octagon history, showcasing the near-immortal light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and returning star Dan Henderson as they do battle in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Despite claiming to be in the best of health a few choice mixed martial arts specialists are claiming otherwise, which if proved true, will mean Jones must face a stand-in, possible in the shape of former middleweight Sonnen.
Former UFC fighter turned pundit Kenny Florian tweeted: “Hearing that we may have some disappointed @ufc fans soon due to some unfortunate circumstances for an upcoming card.”
In addition, MMA writer Jeremy Botter commented: “If what I’m hearing is correct, UFC 151 could be in desperate need for a main event. And that sucks.”
This comes as dampening news to the MMA world, which is waiting in anticipation for the latest challenger, Henderson, to put on a show-stopping performance against the man who has never been put away inside the Octagon/
Many inside sources claim the tweets are nothing go by, and that the light-heavyweight five-round title fight in Mandalay Bay will go ahead as scheduled.
Without the main attraction the fight card for next weekend’s event may not live up to fans expectations, which is why Dana White will move swiftly to ace a solution to please all involved.
Just maybe, this could be the light at the end of the tunnel that Sonnen has been searching for, coming off the back of a loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva, having so much more to prove to UFC fans and critics alike.
