Eyeing her second grand slam title of the season, Victoria Azarneka thrashed reigning champion Sam Stosur in at the pace wrenching Quarter Final of the US Open 2012 at Flushing Meadows.

With her performance covering all aspects of the beautiful game and with a variety of shots, Azarenka defeated her nemesis in 6-1 ,4-6, 7-6 (7/5) victory and reach her first semi finals in New York. The top seed with 26 straight wins to her kitty including a Grand Slam Australian Open Victory is eyeing for gold once again. The game seemed to be one sided in the initial stages but the reigning champion Stosur was not going to give up the game without a fight.

The Australian fought back from the ashes and with a breakdown in the decider as the quality went up and up. The top seed won the first four points of the tie-break but still Stosur would not give in and fought back to 5-5 before Azarenka finally crossed the finishing line with a drop shot and forehand onto the line that drew the error from her opponent.

Victoria Azarenka remains at the top at the rankings table irrespective of the fact whether she wins or loses the game but being the player that she is, Azarenka wont settle then anything less then the best.

“It means a lot, but it’s nothing like lifting a trophy. I cannot compare that feeling to winning a tournament. It’s just a number. It’s a great achievement. It’s something that you work really hard for your whole life to be. But this will not compare,”said Victoria when asked about her aspirations to win yet another title.
