NBA news and rumors: LA Lakers and NY Knicks push for trade
Gossip time for NBA franchise LA Lakers, rumor has it the West Coast outfit is making significant changes to its bulging squad starting with point guards Chris Duhon and Steve Blake, who will be shipped out for the right deals.
The Los Angeles Lakers have dead money tied up Duhon and Blake, now may be the right time to push for a trade if any competitors should want to discuss taking on their contracts.
The trade rumors stem from HoopsHype.com, which reports that Blake and Duhon are expected to receive a cool $15.5 million collectively over the next two seasons, but such a high wage outlet must be trimmed in order to balance the books.
Wages are not the only concern here as Lakers chiefs are worried about the form of said stars, last year Duhon averaged 3.8 points, 2.4 assists and 1.3 turnovers per game over 63 games whereas Blake averaged 5.2 points, 3.3 assists and 1.4 turnovers.
With such disappointing form it may be a struggle to unload Duhon and Blake, although one option would be to bring back Derek Fisher, who no longer the polished article, has the potential to pull out heroic moves in big games when it’s needed most.
Whilst on the topic of LA, there’s further disappointing news for Kobe Bryant who has sat out of practice with the Los Angeles Lakers for the second consecutive day with a foot injury.
Bryant missed Tuesday’s practice and looks to definitely miss out in the Lakers’ preseason game tonight against the Clippers.
Over to New Yoke now and rumors are spreading fast that Carmelo Anthony is being moulded into a power forward for the New York Knicks’ new game plan this season.
It was highlighted in yesterday’s New York Daily News column that a recent recent knee injury to Amare Stoudemire may open up a more offensive spot for Anthony, partnering Ronnie Brewer in a new look forward line.
If the Knicks do stick with this arrangement it will be Tyson Chandler who takes up Center linking up with point guard Raymond Felton, fresh from injury.
So what does this mean for sports fans..? Anthony Carmelo should pick up rebounds for fun now that he will be active around the opposition’s D, and with added mobility he will be asked to lift his scoring average.
